Meeting Report
22 Oct 2007
Cornwall Solo Grass Track Club hosted the final club points meeting of the season at Truthan Farm, St Erme on Sunday. The meeting was full of incident with a number of riders picking up knocks as the afternoon went on.
The solo classes were keenly contested with the seven class wins taken by different riders. Nick Mallett looked to have the edge in the senior classes, taking the 500cc solos but a heavy fall in the 1st leg of the National Licence Holders brought a premature end to his day with a shoulder injury. Steve Leigh took a brace of second’s, behind Mallett in the 500’s and Jason Prynne in the National Licence Holders. Leigh took the Open Final ahead of Prynne. Anthony Queripell claimed the Restricted Licence Holders ahead of Colin Harris, along with 4th in the 500’s and 3rd in the Open.
Stefan Maunder took the 350’s ahead of Chesney King with Jon Shanes in third. King took third in the Restricted Licence Holders and fourth in the Open. Jon Shanes claimed the Invitation race with Maurice Jones taking the Pre 75’s.
Richard Thomas was the class of the Sidecar field winning 7 out of 8 races contested, the only defeat being at the hands of Clive Stoneman in the National Licence Holders final. Other race winners were Alf Pearn (4), Stephen Palmer (1) and Jamie Bree in the Restricted Licence Holders race.
The youth classes were keenly contested as always. In the Auto Cadets Max Cornes and Callan Phillips took a win apiece in the first two races but Phillips’s day came to a premature end after being forced to retire from the third race after sustaining a leg injury. Cornes claimed the last two heats to take the overall win with Joseph Nicholls second and Saul Bulley third. Zach Wajtnecht was unbeaten in claiming the Cadets ahead of Callum Walker and Ashton Webb.
Jack Cornes was unbeaten in the Juniors with Nathan Stoneman taking second and James Shanes in third. Tom Perry took three out of four races in the Inters to claim top spot ahead of Lewis Leah who took the other win with Josh Dingle in third.
The club’s next event will be the annual presentation evening on Saturday 24th November at the Griffin Hotel, Newquay. More information can be found on the club website.
