CORNWALL SOLO GRASS TRACK CLUB
NEWS RELEASE 10th JUNE 2007

Cornwall Solo Grass Track Club hosted the third championship meeting of the season at Truthan Farm, St Erme under sunny skies on Sunday.

Roger Lobb dominated the solo’s with 6 wins out of 6 on route to claiming the 500’s, Restricted Licence Holders & Open classes and fastest time of the day of 1m 08.28 sec. Lobb recorded a further 3 times in the 68 second range. Nick Mallett claimed three heat wins to take the National Licence Holders and followed Lobb home for second in the 500’s and Open. Shaun Pascoe claimed third in the 500’s and Restricted Licence Holders and a fifth in the Open final. Chesney King was the star of the 350’s with four race wins ahead of Max Sandford in second and Jon Shanes in third. Colin Harris claimed the Invitation Race ahead of Shanes with Chris Andrews in third. Two wins and a second saw Derren Harris claim the Pre 75’s ahead of Colin Harris in second and Adrian Kessell third. Plymouth Devils speedway promoter Mike Bowden claimed fourth in the 500’s, third in the National Licence Holders and third in the Open Final.

The Sidecars proved competitive throughout the day with plenty of close racing and passing. Daryl Sweetland & Mike Bishop claimed the Restricted Licence Holders ahead of Jaime Bree & James Goudge with Andy Gribble & Moss Janson in third. Clive Stoneman & Matt Vickery took the National Licence Holders from Jim Pearn & Paul Uglow in second and Alfie & Terry Pearn in third. In the first open three different crews claimed heat wins with Jim Pearn claiming two and one apiece for Stoneman and Sweetland. Alfie & Terry Pearn took the final ahead of Stoneman in second with Stephen Palmer & Shaun Hoskin in third. In the second open Lee Hicks & Phil Collyer made up for missing the first open final with two heat wins, with Stoneman and Palmer claiming the other two. Palmer & Hicks enjoyed a close battle early on in the final before Palmer moved clear to take the win with Hicks second and Stoneman third. Jim Pearn claimed the fastest time of the day for sidecars with a 1m 20.74 sec.

In the youth classes Callan Phillips claimed a maximum 60 points to claim the Auto Cadets ahead of Joseph Nicholls in second and Saul Bulley in third. Zach Wajknecht was equally dominant in the Cadets with Callum Walker in second and Ashton Webb taking third. In the Juniors, Nathan Stoneman claimed the first leg, James Shanes claimed the next two to hold a two point lead with two legs to go. The fourth leg proved decisive when James Shanes fell whilst chasing Nathan for the lead. Nathan went on to claim the last leg, Bill Gribble took second overall with Shanes in third. The Inters came down to a battle between Danny Stoneman and Tom Perry with Stoneman just edging it with three wins to Perry’s two with Stefan Maunder claiming third.

The clubs next race meeting is on Sunday 15th July with a competitive entry expected. On the August Bank holiday weekend the club host the ACU National Youth Best Pairs on the Saturday and the club’s annual Grand Slam meeting on the Sunday at the usual Truthan Farm venue.
