CORNWALL SOLO GRASS TRACK CLUB
NEWS RELEASE 27th MAY 2007

Cornwall Solo Grass Track Club’s second championship meeting of the season fell victim to a band of heavy rain which hit the Trispen venue after just over an hour’s racing which forced officials to call a halt to proceedings after 25 of the 68 programmed races.

In the only class to reach a final, Charlie Saunders claimed the 500cc solos ahead of Steve Leigh in second and Matt Etherington in third. Roger Lobb, on his return to grass track racing claimed a heat win and led the final early on until a seized motor ended his race. Etherington claimed the one heat of 350’s run ahead of local favourite Chesney King with Sam Foley in third. Steve Cox claimed the one heat Pre 75’s with Derren Harris second and Charlie Patterson third.

In the sidecars Andy Gribble & Mark Truscott claimed the Restricted Licence Holders ahead of Jamie Bree & James Goudge in second with Daryl Sweetland & Mike Bishop in third. Andy Symons & Roland Broomfield won the National Licence Holders ahead of Alfie & Terry Pearn and Steve Palmer & Shaun Hoskin. The First Open was awarded on points with Alf & Terry Pearn taking 1st win maximum points from two heat wins. Jamie Bree & James Goudge took second with a win and a second place with Daryl Sweetland and Mike Bishop in third with a win and a third place. Other heat winners were Andy Symons & Roland Broomfield and Andy Gribble & Mark Truscott. Gribble & Truscott were suffered a roll over in their second heat as the conditions changed.

John Elliot won only heat of Quads after a race long battle with Paul Marley and Richard Waters who took second and third respectively.

The youth results were declared after two legs. In the Auto Cadets 1st place was shared by Callan Phillips and Max Cornes who both scored a win and second place, third place went to Jo Nicholls with two thirds. Zac Wajknecht won the Cadets in dominant form with tapes to flag victories in both legs, Ashton Webb claimed second with Callum Walker taking third. In the Juniors, Jack Cornes claimed the first leg ahead of Nathan Stoneman and James Shanes but suffered a heavy fall in the second leg leaving him with a bruised back. Stoneman claimed the second leg to take class honours on the day with Shanes second and David Abraham third. A win and second place each for Danny Stoneman and Tom Perry saw them share the class honours in the Inters with Josh Dingle and Richard Andrews sharing third place.

The clubs next race meeting is on Sunday 10th June when another competitive entry is expected. The club are pleased to announce an additional race meeting Saturday 25th August when Cornwall will host the ACU National Youth Best Pairs championship at the Truthan Farm venue.
