Meeting Report - 16th July 16 Jul 2006

Cornwall Solo Grass Track Club ran the club's fourth meeting of the season on Sunday at Truthan Farm, St Erme on a undulating but smooth track which created great racing in all the classes.

In the Solo Classes Wayne Barrett claimed the Experts and 500cc classes but problems with a loose steel shoe hampered him in the Open final allowing Kevin Williams to claim victory. Williams shared 2nd in the Experts with Tim Curnock with a 2nd and 3rd place each in the two legs. Curnock took 2nd in the 500cc final with John Weeks 3rd after Williams lost a chain in the final.

Simon Phillips claimed the 350cc class ahead of Jon Shanes and Adrian Kessell in third and impressed winning his heats in the Restricted Licence Holders and Invitation classes. His day unfortunately ended with a knee injury after suffering a heavy fall in the Open final.

Shaun Pascoe claimed a double of class wins in the Restricted Licence Holders and Invitation with Steve Pearce 2nd and Nick Mallett 3rd in the Restricted and Phillips 2nd and Jody Hodgeson 3rd in the Invitation. Gavin Horsburgh missed both finals with machine problems.

In the Sidecars Stephen Palmer/Shaun Hoskin claimed the Restricted Licence Holders ahead of Jamie Bree/James Goudge in 2nd and Pete Shaw/Mark Truscott in 3rd.

Andrew Symons/Daniel Bray claimed the 1st Open final after winning both heats. Palmer/Hoskin took 2nd ahead of Ric McAuley/David Williams 3rd, after claiming the other two heats Alfie & Terry Pearn could only manage 5th in the final. McAuley/Williams and Palmer/Hoskin both claimed two heats each in the 2nd Open before Joseph Sturtridge/Darren Wilce made the gate in the final to lead from the front and claim victory ahead of Palmer/Hoskin in 2nd and Wayne Westaway/Mark Courtney 3rd.

Three riders claimed maximum scores in the youth classes, Ashton Webb in the Auto Cadets, Darryl Ritching in the Juniors and Danny Stoneman in the Inters.

In the Autos Aaron Pascoe claimed 2nd with Saul Bulley 3rd. The Cadets class saw some of the closest racing of the day between Bill Gribble hugging the inside line on a MX machine and James Shanes on the outside on a conventional grass track style bike. Shanes, having won 3 out of 4 heats only needed to finish behind Gribble in the last heat but suffered a spectacular fall trying to catch Gribble, Fortunately Shanes was able to walk away but was excluded from the re-run.

Joshua Dingle took 2nd in the Juniors with Nathan Stoneman 3rd. James Charlesworth took 2nd in the Inters with Chesney King 3rd.

The next meeting will be on Sunday 27th August.
