Meeting Report 28 May 2006

Plymouth Devils speedway rider Lee Smart was the class of the Solo field at Cornwall Solo Grass Track Club's meeting at St Erme on Sunday. Smart remained unbeaten throughout the day claiming victory in the Restricted Licence Holders, 500cc and Open classes.

The Open final produced one of the best finals for some time with St Austell's Wayne Barrett leading for two laps after pinning Smart to the wide line. Smart made his move on the fourth bend of the second lap cutting back inside Barrett to move ahead going into the third lap to take a lead he would not lose, Chacewater's Adrian Rowe claimed third. Rowe claimed the Experts, run over two legs, with a win and a second place after Barrett did not take his place in the second leg despite winning the first leg with Tim Curnock in 3rd.

In the 500cc class Tim Curnock claimed second with John Weeks in third after Rowe retired and Barrett did not come to tapes in the final. In the 350cc class, run over three legs, Cullumpton's Sam Fowley was unlucky to suffer bike problems in one heat and finished in 3rd place overall despite two wins. Steve Pearce claimed victory ahead of Adrian Kessell.

Gavin Horsburgh took 2nd in the Restricted Licence Holders class behind Smart with Andrew Cocker in third. Horsburgh claimed the Invitation race from Chris Andrews in 2nd and Eddie Julian 3rd.

The 1000cc sidecars served up an action filled day with no fewer than 5 race winners through the day. Joseph Sturtridge & Nick Diment claimed the Restricted Licence Holders race ahead of Steven Palmer & Shaun Hoskin with debutants Jamie Bree & James Goudge in third.

The First Open heats served up for separate race winners and no shortage of action. In the first heat Ricky McAuley & Phil Stoneman were put back to second place after cutting inside the line of the track to pass Lee Hicks & Phil Collyer. Andrew Symons & Dan Bray claimed the second heat, McAuley/Stoneman took the third ahead of Hicks/Collyer with the fourth heat going to Bree/Goudge. Symons/Bray took the final ahead of Bree/Goudge with Palmer/Hoskin in third. McAuley/Stoneman spun out whilst leading and Hick/Collyer suffered a puncture.

The Second Open saw McAuley/Stoneman win two heats along with Bree/Goudge. Steven Palmer was third on points but unable to take his place in the final after rolling his outfit avoiding Bree/Goudge who slowed suddenly in front of him at the conclusion of there second heat. This allowed Hicks/Collyer into the final who had originally missed out after missing the first heat. Bree/Goudge took the win ahead of Hicks/Collyer who took advantage of the place in the final to claim second, with Phil Syms & Mark Truscott in third.
