CORNWALL SOLO GRASS TRACK CLUB
NEWS RELEASE 23rd APRIL 2006

Cornwall Solo Grass Track Club got there season underway on Sunday at St Erme. Despite a small field of competitors, a well prepared track gave good racing throughout the program.

In the Solo classes Jon Shanes claimed victory in the 350cc class with 28 points from three legs with Sam Fowley second on 26 points. Local Debutant Peter Donaldson claimed third with 19 points after engine problems forced Steve Pearce to pull out of the final leg leaving him on 14 points. Wayne Barrett claimed the Experts from Adrian Rowe in a two rider race.

Rowe took 500cc honours 26 points from three legs. Gavin Horsburgh took second on 22 points with Barrett third on 20 points. The thrown chain in the second leg whilst leading costing Barrett a clean sweep of race wins during the day. Shaun Pascoe claimed fourth with 19 points. Pascoe took the Restricted Licence Holders ahead of Andrew Cocker and Sam Fowley, Horsburgh missing the start with mechanical difficulties. Horsburgh came back to claim the Invitation from Pascoe and Shanes. Barrett took the Open final ahead of Rowe with Cocker in third, Horsburgh fourth and Keiron Davidson fifth.

The 1000cc sidecars produced competitive racing with no fewer than 7 different race winners during the day. Joseph Sturtridge & Nick Diment claimed the Junior ahead of Stephen Palmer & Shaun Hoskin in second and Tim Warren/Martin Sheppard in third.
The First Open heats saw four different race winners in as many heats, Lee Hicks & Phil Collyer, Palmer & Hoskin, Alf & Terry Pearn and Jim Pearn & Paul Uglow. Pearn & Uglow won the final from Palmer & Hoskin in second and Hicks/Collyer in third.

In the Second Open Phil Syms & Mark Truscott took two heat wins and maximum points into the final, the other heat winners being Pearn & Uglow and Andrew Symons & Dan Bray. In the final Hicks & Collyer recovered from a failure in there second heat to win from the gate with Pearn & Uglow in second and Symons & Bray in third.

In the youth classes Aston Webb won the Auto Cadets ahead of Jordan Pethick with Aaron Pascoe in third. The Cadets class was won by James Shanes ahead of Bill Gribble who dropped points after a fall in the fourth leg with David Abraham third.

The Juniors was claimed by Darryl Ritchings with 5 straight wins ahead of Joshua Dingle with 5 seconds. Tyler Govier took third after a fall in the fourth leg ruled Nathan Stoneman out of the remainder if the meeting. Chesney King was the unbeaten in the Inters aboard his new Jawa 250cc powered machine. Stefan Maunder took second with Jake Quintrell third and top 125cc runner after a fall in the second leg cost James Charlesworth third overall.

The next race meeting will be at St Erme on Sunday 28th May.
